Time is a gift; use it to cherish, connect, and love deeply.

Spending our time wisely—with loved ones, doing what we enjoy, and helping others—is essential. Most of us recognize that time is our most precious asset, yet we often waste it on things that don’t truly matter. Time is a gift we can never get back, and we are called to spend it purposefully. Psalm 90:12 teaches, “Teach us to number our days, that we may gain a heart of wisdom.” By appreciating the fleeting nature of time, we can focus on what matters most.

One of the moments that often wakes people up to the value of time is the passing of a loved one. At funerals, you may hear people saying, “I can’t believe they’re gone; it’s been so long since I saw them.” Such moments make us realize how quickly time slips away. Proverbs 27:1 reminds us, “Do not boast about tomorrow, for you do not know what a day may bring.” Life is short, and it’s all too easy to lose track of what matters as we get caught up in day-to-day routines.

Consider the scenario of a grandchild who grows up, becomes busy, and loses touch with their grandparents. Between work, friends, and the endless busyness of life, they forget to call or visit. It’s not intentional, but time passes, and the opportunities to connect dwindle. Ecclesiastes 3:1 says, “For everything, there is a season, and a time for every matter under heaven.” We need to make time for the people who matter before it’s too late.

As life moves on, some grandchildren find themselves feeling regret at a grandparent’s funeral, wishing they’d made more of an effort. They wonder why they didn’t reach out sooner, and the pain of lost time sets in. In Ephesians 5:15-16, Paul urges, “Be very careful, then, how you live—not as unwise but as wise, making the most of every opportunity, because the days are evil.” We should strive to live in a way that honors this precious gift of time, connecting with and cherishing our loved ones.

The good news is that we can start using our time more wisely right now. A short text message or a two-minute phone call may seem small, but it means the world to someone who feels forgotten. Take a moment to reach out, even with a busy schedule. Remember James 4:14, which says, “You are a mist that appears for a little while and then vanishes.” Knowing how quickly time passes should remind us to focus on what truly matters.

Let’s commit to spending each day purposefully. Call the people you love, make room in your schedule for them, and use your time to make a positive impact on others. Proverbs 16:3 encourages us, “Commit to the Lord whatever you do, and he will establish your plans.” By choosing to use our time with purpose, we honor God and bring joy to those we care about.

Time is our most valuable asset. Use it wisely, connect with loved ones, and cherish the moments that matter most.

Ready to make the most of your time? Take a moment today to reach out to someone you love. Make it a habit to connect and create lasting memories with the people who mean the most to you.
