Leading a friend to Christ isn’t always the easiest thing to do. As Christians, we should not become discouraged during this process. Instead, we should remember that we are sharing the good news of salvation with every friend and person we meet. Let’s always remember “Therefore if any man be in Christ, he is a new creature: old things are passed away; behold, all things become new.” – 2 Corinthians 5:17

Making Friends and Trusting Your Instinct

You have the opportunity to meet people and bring them to Christ every day. You might not have enough time in your day to greet everyone you meet and have a Christian conversation with them, but you can use your instinct to draw you closer to those that need it most.

Have you ever looked at someone for the first time and felt their sadness and emotional pain? Did you wish you could help them feel better? This was your instinct recognizing that a fellow soul needs help and your desire to guide them in the right direction is strong.

The Challenge

Approaching a stranger in public is one of the most challenging things to do. But in the moment you will notice that suddenly your mind knows exactly how to greet the person and the words flow naturally. This is your natural gift flowing through you and allowing you to help others.

If you feel nervous or have a difficult time approaching people there are a few techniques that will help you along.

  • Recognize that the individual needs help – A person that is suffering in life will express their pain through their body language. Their posture will be hunched over, the expression in their eyes will exude sadness, their facial expression will seem angry and their tone of voice will sound weak, sad or angry.
  • Take a deep breath and exhale – Before approaching the person take a deep breath and relax. Try to shake your nerves off by realizing this is only going to take a few seconds or minutes of your life. But it’s going to change and improve the other person’s life forever.
  • Focus on what you want to say – Speaking to a stranger means you have a limited time frame to capture their attention and say something profound that will make a difference. Combining a good deed such as helping the person carry their groceries or doing a kind deed along with a brief Christian conversation can make all the difference in the world.

Remember you can restore someone’s faith in humanity by showing kindness and understanding. Becoming someone’s friend first will help gain their trust and respect in you as a good Christian. This will help your new found friend become more open to having Christian conversations with you and accepting Christ in their life.
