South Florida isn’t known to have the friendly neighbors. People can go years living across the street from each other and not even know their name. It’s a sad thing when people just want to hide in their house and not be part of the community and neighborhood. Sometimes it just takes one person to initiate a friendly conversation and create a neighborly bond.

ПечатьTic-Tac-Toe

My preacher gave a great illustration on this subject, and I thought it would be a blessing to you as much as it was to me. An inventive way to look at the neighborly situation is to imagine a tic-tac-toe game board. In this case, you are the center square surrounded by neighbors that act as the other boxes on the board. Your goal is to introduce yourself and your family to the neighbors. An excellent way to break the ice is to invite them to your church for Sunday service.

If your neighbors don’t seem interested in attending church you can begin breaking the ice by doing a random act of kindness. This will surely open up communication and allow them to at least thank you for your kind deed. A conversation will naturally follow which allows a great opportunity to have a Christian conversation.

First Name Basis

Learn all of your neighbor’s names and one special thing about them. For example, the elderly lady across the street might adore her dog and the family next door might attend soccer or football games on weekends. Learning something about each neighbor allows you to have a conversation about their interests the next time you see them.

Be Creative

It’s not a secret that most people initially want to reject any conversation about religion. But, don’t let this stop you. This just means you have to be a little more creative with introducing Christ into their life. For example, let’s say there are three families that live on your street that have children. Your church is having a carnival that is raising funds for a meaningful cause. You can invite the three families to the carnival. The next time you see your neighbors after the carnival, you can follow up with an invitation to bible study or a youth group event.

Before you realize it your neighbors that haven’t spoken to you for years will be fellow members of your church. They will also become friends with your family and a tight-knit neighborhood can be formed. These same new friendly neighbors will most likely speak to other neighbors in the area to invite them to church as well. Begin your game of tic-tac-toe by making the first move and introducing yourself to your neighbors today!
