Pain is the teacher, and wisdom is the lesson learned in God’s presence.

Have you ever heard the saying, “You get wiser as you get older?” It’s common wisdom shared worldwide. The more we live and experience life, the more we learn. Often, it’s the painful moments that teach us the hardest and most valuable lessons.
Think back to a time in your life when you experienced deep pain. How did it make you feel? Did you rise above it, fight your way through, or pray your way through it? When the struggle was over, did you emerge with a new perspective? James 1:2-4 reminds us, “Consider it pure joy, my brothers and sisters, whenever you face trials of many kinds, because you know that the testing of your faith produces perseverance.” Through our struggles, God often shapes us, building resilience and strength we may not even realize we have.
Sometimes we face painful situations as a wake-up call. Maybe we’re on a path of poor choices, making mistake after mistake. Then something serious happens—a moment of clarity that shows us a new way forward. This moment of pain becomes the turning point, prompting us to search for answers and a better path. Proverbs 3:5-6 urges us to “Trust in the Lord with all your heart and lean not on your own understanding; in all your ways submit to him, and he will make your paths straight.” Pain often humbles us, leading us to seek God’s wisdom rather than our own.
In times of hardship, we start taking small steps to heal and seek new direction. Many people turn to the Lord for strength and guidance. Psalm 34:18 reminds us, “The Lord is close to the brokenhearted and saves those who are crushed in spirit.” Our painful experiences can lead us closer to God, as we find comfort and purpose in His presence. These moments often lead to incredible transformation, creating a deeper faith and a life filled with God’s love.
If you’ve already gone through such an experience, you may recognize how it led to a greater understanding and, possibly, a newfound closeness with God. If not, think back to any painful time in your life and remember the steps you took to overcome it. It’s likely that in your journey out of that pain, you gained wisdom, strength, and perspective.
From pain comes wisdom. As we grow through life’s hardships, let’s remember to reach back and help others who are hurting. Galatians 6:2 encourages us to “Carry each other’s burdens, and in this way, you will fulfill the law of Christ.” By sharing our experiences and offering guidance, we can provide comfort and encouragement to others who are struggling.
Sometimes, the advice you give or the story you share is exactly what someone else needs to hear. It’s essential to pass on the wisdom God has granted us. Sharing your testimony of God’s grace and guidance can inspire others facing similar challenges to keep moving forward, trusting that there is hope and light at the end of their journey.
Wisdom often grows from hardship. As we gain insight through life’s painful moments, let’s honor God by helping others find strength and hope in their struggles.
Are you ready to share your wisdom? Take a moment today to reach out to someone who might be struggling. Your story could be the encouragement they need to find hope and resilience.
