Blog: “Some People Dream of Success While Others Wake Up and Work Hard for It”
Everyone dreams of success, but do we truly understand what success means to us? Success looks different for each person. For one, it might mean a big house, a garage full of cars, and financial freedom. For another, it could be a simple life filled with family, friends, and contentment.
There’s no right or wrong definition of success, but what truly matters is how we go about achieving it. In 1 Kings 2:3, King David gives his son Solomon this wisdom: “Do what the Lord your God commands and follow His teachings. Obey everything written in the Law of Moses. Then you will be a success, no matter what you do or where you go.” Notice David didn’t tell Solomon to seek wealth or power but to live in obedience to God.
As Christians, it’s essential to reflect on how we pursue success. Are we following God’s guidance? Are our actions rooted in His will, or are we simply chasing comfort and status?
Here are three important questions to ask as we work toward our goals.
Why Do We Want These Things?
Our reasons for pursuing success vary. It could be to provide a good life for our families, to fulfill personal ambitions, or even out of self-interest. Whatever the reason, it’s vital to understand the “why” behind our actions. When we’re clear on our motivations, we can ensure that our goals align with God’s purpose for our lives.
Who Are We Doing It For?
Are we working hard to impress others, to gain approval, or to fulfill God’s purpose? Success pursued solely for self-gain or to prove our worth to others can leave us feeling empty. Colossians 3:17 reminds us, “And whatever you do, whether in word or deed, do it all in the name of the Lord Jesus, giving thanks to God the Father through him.” True fulfillment comes when we work with God’s glory in mind, not for recognition or status.
Will My Actions Please the Lord?
Success in God’s eyes isn’t about material wealth or worldly praise. It’s about pursuing our goals with integrity, faith, and a desire to honor Him. God calls us to put effort into our work, not to sit back and wait for miracles. He desires that we answer the prayers of our hearts with Him in mind, working toward goals that glorify His name and bring us closer to Him.
Everyone wants success, but the path we take matters. True success is found in a life that reflects God’s love and wisdom. When we align our efforts with His purpose, our journey becomes more meaningful, and our achievements bring glory to God.
Takeaway: Success is more than reaching our goals—it’s about how we pursue them. By keeping God at the center of our lives, we find purpose and fulfillment in every step we take.
